MY WONDERFUL CAREER AS A PAINTER

Suzanne Jacquot

My studio

If I were to list one thing that has made me successful as an artist, it would be getting into the studio!

When I am in proximity to my paints and materials something is bound to happen. If I don’t show up, nothing is going to happen.

Painting happens by my getting involved. That is how paintings are produced……by participating in the messy process of painting. Showing up, means going into the studio on those blah days as well as those days that I am eager and excited and curious. It takes self-discipline to show up. But, showing up allows me to create work on a consistent basis which in turn allows me to have paintings ready for galleries, art lovers, collectors, and getting my art shared and seen in a myriad of ways.

I have been very fortunate to be able to create this wonderful studio space attached to my modest home.

I work as a painter. It is my job, my passion and what makes my world full of joy and passion.

THE POWER OF COLOR

Color plays a vitally important role in the world in which we live. Color can sway thinking, change actions, and cause reactions. It can irritate or soothe your eyes, raise your blood pressure or suppress your appetite. When used in the right ways, color can even save on energy consumption. Living with color adds energy to our lives.

As artists, color is a powerful element we use to express ourselves, share beliefs, convey a message and transform viewers intellectually and emotionally by creating moods and atmosphere in our paintings. Colors give us opposites to explore and bring together such energies and feelings as warm/cool. quiet/loud, hard/soft, sweet/sour, bold/gentle, joy/despair, near/far, etc.

So, to inspire and educate we have created five free, fun, and informative videos, The Power of Color, for you.
We want to color your world!

To stand in the presence of a master! To feel the energy of the artist moving the paint on the canvas!

The Joan Mitchell Show is still up at the San Francisco MOMA til January 17, 2022, and it is a MUST SEE! You can buy your tickets online at https://www.sfmoma.org/exhibition/joan-mitchell/

Joan Mitchell is my greatest inspiration and the reason I became an abstract artist. Her freedom, talent and perserverence became my “gold standard.” And she still is even after more than 25 years. When I look at her work, I am able to get the strength and courage it takes to be true to oneself and stick to it.

But, more than that, Joan Mitchell’s art has an honesty, and an immediacy to it. A room full of her gigantic canvases all spewing out bold energy is a breathtaking experience. I love how her work developed into strong assurety with pure clarity and less angst….

Joan Mitchell’s love of life and passion to express herself through her paintings reminds me why we need art in our lives every day.
